Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium now also in Food-Grade

Chondroitin sulphate sodium is a natural active ingredient which is derived from animal cartilage tissue. When used in dietary supplements, chondroitin sulphate sodium helps to prevent arthritic joint disease and to keep the cartilage healthy. The rules for the use of chondroitin sulphate sodium in the food industry are much stricter than those for pharmaceutical products. Whilst pharmaceutical quality requires that end products conform to the standards of category 3, in the food industry, the products used have to prove to be of suitable quality for human consumption throughout the entire production process.

“Food-grade chondroitin sulphate sodium is an important addition to our portfolio. Thus far, we have only been able to offer pharmaceutical-quality to our customers, for which there is no food approval in Europe”, explains Karl-Ernst Jansener. “We have noticed for some time that dietary supplement manufacturers have been increasingly demanding chondroitin sulphate sodium, and we are pleased to now be able to give a satisfactory response about this new quality. Our food-grade complies with EU Regulation 178/2002; it comes from the ZPD Company, which has both its headquarters and its production in Denmark.”
