SMETA Audit Requires Compliance with Social and Ethical Standards

Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) is a non-profit organisation for companies which want to organise the ethical management of their supply chains. Today, more than 27,000 members in over 150 countries belong to Sedex which was established in London in 2004. The online platform has two goals: firstly, to reduce the burden of multiple audits and, secondly, to achieve a global improvement in working conditions.

During the SMETA review, an independent auditing company used an extensive questionnaire to assess our status in respect of socially-responsible practices and then evaluated this by means of a risk management tool. As a wholesaler who is in the middle of the supply chain, Hädener can make its own reports available to its customers on the SEDEX database and can also publish and view suppliers’ audit reports.

”For Hädener, socially-responsible behaviour involves not only meeting legal requirements, but also standing up for the observance of even higher ethical and social standards. The SMETA audit complements our corporate values and offers transparency and security to our customers and suppliers”, explains Vasco Savio, Managing Director of Hädener Rohstoffe GmbH. “As a member of SEDEX, we demonstrate our commitment to socially and ethically-responsible behaviour to our customers. We guarantee that the products they purchase from us meet recognised standards. In addition, we also document our requirements to our suppliers for our collaboration”.
